Useful apps for students in Southern Norway

In a digital era, apps can contribute to making life a little easier. Here is our selection of recommended apps that may be useful for you as a student living in Southern Norway.

Student discounts

  • "Studentbevis"
    • This app serves as your digital student ID and is only valid after you have registered as a student and paid your semester fee. The student ID is essential and can be used in all situations where you need to prove that you are a student, such as if you want to get student discounts on public transportation or in stores.
  • "Akademika"
    • Akademika is the joint app for bookstores on campuses across Norway. Set the setting to "SiA Bok," and you will get specific offers that apply to you in Kristiansand and Grimstad.
  • "Studentpakken"
    • "Studentpakken" is a goodie bag for student that is handed out on campuses twice a year, but you can find excellent deals for students in the app throughout the year.

Food and drink

  • "Mattilbud" (food deals)
    • In this app, you can find all the offers available at grocery stores in Norway. Students often live on little money, so this app for food deals is handy to make your money last as long as possible.
  • Too Good To Go
    • Here, you get two in one! You can save both money and the environment by rescuing food that would otherwise be thrown away, often at a significantly reduced price. It's worth being early to grab the best deals because when it's gone, it's gone.

Shopping

  • "Sørlandssenteret"
    • This is the app for Norway's largest shopping center, Sørlandssenteret. The app contains exclusive offers where you can potentially save good money. Some of the offers are fixed if you have downloaded the app, while others last for only a short period.
  • IKEA
    • Here at UiA, we are lucky that IKEA is located relatively close to both campuses. IKEA in itself is known to be quite affordable, but with the IKEA family app, you can get even better deals on everything you need for your apartment.
  • "Byliv"
    • This app provides a good overview of all the stores in Kristiansand city center, campaigns, regular discounts, and student discounts. Take a look before going to the hairdresser, eating out, or shopping, and you may often save some money!
  • "Oddensenteret"
    • Oddensenteret is the shopping center on the waterfront in Grimstad. With the app, you get offers, competitions, and easy access right on your mobile phone.

Transportation

  • AKT
    • The app for Agder public transport is a must if you live in Agder. Here, you can buy bus tickets for travel throughout Agder, and you can also see where all the nearby electric scooters are located.
  • Electric Scooters
    • Speaking of electric scooters, you need the different companies' apps to be able to use them. The most relevant ones in Kristiansand are Voi and Bolt. Grimstad currently does not have electric scooters.

Housing and leisure

  • "Spicheren"
    • Take advantage of Southern Norway's largest gym operated by the Student Association in Agder (SiA).
  • "SiA Studentliv"
    • Here, you get a complete overview of all SiA's offers, such as the canteen, SiA Health, and daycare. The best thing about the app is the activity calendar, where there are plenty of fun things for students to do.
  • "SiA Bolig"
    • In the app, you can easily manage your rental agreement with SiA Housing, such as paying rent or reporting faults in the apartment.
  • Civis
    • This is the app for Kristiansand Municipality. Here, you get useful messages about things that happen or need to be taken into account around the municipality, such as snow removal, useful application deadlines, events, etc.

Studies

  • Canvas
    • On this platform, you will find everything you need to know about your studies; courses, assignments, and messages from courses and study programs.
  • Mazemap
    • If you're having trouble finding your way around campus, this app is a lifesaver! Just enter the room number of your destination, and the app will help you navigate there.
  • Quizlet
    • On Quizlet, you can create smart flashcards to better memorise your curriculum.
  • Citationsy
    • With this app, you can easily cite books by scanning the barcode.
