Funding for semester start events

Academic societies and student activities affiliated with STA can apply for funding for events or activities for new students at the start of the academic year.

UiA and the Buddy Team, in partnership with the Welfare Council, are providing NOK 100,000 in funding for student-led initiatives!

Apply here before 1 June 2024

UiA aims to help new students quickly become acquainted with the university, student town, campus and each other. The purpose of offering funding is to facilitate engagement and involvement from students and student groups in achieving this goal, without having to rely on alcohol.

Requirements that must be met

Eligibility requirements

  • Applicant must be an association affiliated with STA.
  • The event may include alcohol, but drinking should not be the focus of the event.
  • Attach a budget to the application. And after the event, a financial report with documented expenses must be provided (refer to the 'Allocation and payment' section below).

Other factors to consider

  • The event appeals to a wide range of students.
  • The event contributes to diversity in the welcome week programme.
  • Events that are marketed and organised to promote diversity and inclusion will receive special consideration.
  • The event focuses on sustainability and the environment throughout the planning and execution.
  • Events exclusively for members of academic societies and student activities will also be considered.

Dates and deadlines

  • Application deadline: 1 June
  • Allocation: 20 June
  • Deadline for appeals: 27 June
  • Payment: Upon receipt of invoice and receipts after the event
  • Deadline for submission of invoice and receipts: 30 September

Allocation and payment

The applications are reviewed by the UiA buddy teams and the Welfare Council in Agder.

Applications are evaluated based on how well they meet the application criteria. The funds are allocated to the activities/events that they deem to best meet the criteria, within the financial limits of the grant.

Smaller academic societies and student activities are encouraged to organise joint events and apply for funding together.

Payment

Payment is made upon receipt of invoice to UiA after the event, along with a financial report and documentation of expenses (receipts). Invoice information will be provided in the allocation letter, which will be sent to the contact person of the association via email.

Note that the association must cover the costs of the event themselves and will be reimbursed for up to the allocated amount through an invoice after the event.
