To access health care in Norway, remember to carry your health insurance documents.

Students staying longer than 12 months with a Norwegian ID-number or D-number, automatically have access to the same medical services as Norwegian citizens.

There is typically a small fee per visit until you reach the yearly limit. Once you have reached the yearly limit, you are eligible for a healthcare exemption card ("frikort").

Where can I find a doctor?

GP Doctor

Students with a Norwegian ID-number or D-number can register with a General Practitioner ("fastlege" in Norwegian) at Helsenorge.no

The doctors appointment usually lasts 15 minutes, and it can take a couple of weeks to get an appointment.

Read more about preparing for your appointment with you GP here

Exchange students and student with urgent needs can visit the 24/7 Clinic ("Legevakten") or make an appointment with the Online Doctor

Grimstad students can contact the medical center "Brannstasjonen legesenter".
Opening Hours: Monday - Friday from 8 to 15.
Call to make appointment: +47 37 25 60 00

24/7 Clinic

It is important to call +47 116 117 before visiting the clinic to register your details and let them know what help you need. Here you will also be informed if there is a long waiting time, and if they recommend that you wait a few hours before coming in.

For exchange students, also remind them that you do not have a Norwegian ID-number and this is the only place you can get medical assistance.

Legevakten Kristiansand

Grimstad does not have a 24/7 clinic in the city, but at the hospital in Arendal.
