Inclusive internationalisation and more options for nursing students in the Nordic countries (INKLUSIV)

Collaboration

International cooperation with local adjustments is necessary to solve many of the challenges facing the world. The global societal challenges are big and if they are to be tackled, cooperation across national borders is important. Due to this, the government’s goal is for more than half of those graduating from Norwegian higher education institutions to spend time studying abroad.

Purpose

The main goal of the INKLUSIV project is to significantly increase the proportion of nursing students who go on exchange in general, but also more specifically to the Nordic countries where we plan targeted measures that involve increased inclusion and more sustainable mobility. This will be achieved through work that focuses on breaking down barriers to mobility, offering various opportunities for internationalisation on the study programme to increase learning outcomes, as well as work to get more employees involved in international educational cooperation. In INKLUSIV, we will test various inclusion measures that we hope will yield results and that will spread to other faculties in the long term.

Project description

Nursing is an international profession, and nurses carry out many and varied tasks in health services nationally and internationally. This requires a good knowledge of other cultures and international obligations. Undertaking a period of study abroad as part of their degree is therefore considered important.

Through the INKLUSIV project, work is being done to include more groups of students to enable a significant and lasting increase in mobility in general, but with a particular focus on the Nordic region. We work to ensure that students who have various challenges and who need support also get exchange opportunities and therefore collaborate with different units at UiA, such as the Office for Special Needs Accommodation, Supported Education (SMS) and SiA Health. The project has a strong focus on student involvement.
