Activating student expertise in electronic music education (STUDX)

Technological development combined with new, informal learning strategies among electronic music students, creates the need for a dynamic, formal pedagogy that constantly renews.

Purpose

This project will develop, implement and evaluate teaching methods where students as active co-creators and participants are central, with the goal of better interaction between pedagogical, professional and digital competence when teaching in technology-rich environments. The project's main goal is to increase ownership, commitment and critical reflection among students.

We will achieve this by systematically increasing student activity through four designated phases, which are implemented in three existing courses distributed over the three years in the bachelor's program.

The four phases are:

  1. needs analysis,
  2. designation of common and individual content for the course,
  3. implementation of common and individual content, and
  4. peer-assessment.

Project description

The project has three sub-goals divided into the four phases:

  1. DM1 (Phases 1 and 2): Increase students' commitment and ownership of content through, among other things, active participation in designating common and individual content.
  2. DM2 (Phase 3) Increase students 'commitment and ownership of the learning activities by, among other things, utilizing the students' cutting-edge competence in teaching and through curious and participating teachers.
  3. DM3 (Phase 4): Increase students 'commitment and ownership of the assessment through peer-assessment, among other things through the students' assessment of fellow students being finally assessed by the subject teacher.

Results

The project will lead to three types of results:

  1. practical and relevant courses with high degree of student involvement, which promotes diversity and facilitates critical reflection,
  2. digital solutions for conducting assessment of students' assessment of fellow students, and
  3. development of didactics for electronic music students who are transferable to other educational institutions and levels.
