Mandate for Study Programme Committee/PhD Programme Committee

All degree programmes, as well as the Post-Graduate Certificate of Education, shall have a study programme committee/PhD programme committee. The study programme committee/PhD programme committee is a forum for discussion and advisory body for the study programme manager /PhD programme manager or the Head of Studies.

Adopted by the university’s Academic Affairs Committee 17 August 2007 with amendments adopted by the University Board 7 March 2018 (effective from 1 August 2018)

1. Study programme committees/PhD programme committees will contribute to the development of study programmes and the students’ total learning environment by:
a) Evaluating and contributing to further development of study programmes in accordance with the university’s quality system and by contributing to the annual study programme report.
b) Preparing statements concerning the programme description and changes to the description prior to discussions in the faculty board/teacher education board.
c) Addressing and making statements concerning academic, organisational and administrative issues that are relevant to the study programme
d) Addressing issues that concern various aspects of the students’ physical, psychosocial, organisational, digital and pedagogical learning environment.

The faculty board/teacher education board or the Dean may give additional assignments to the study programme committee/PhD programme committee.

2. Composition, period of office and appointment
a) The programme committee is chaired by the study programme manager/Head of Studies/PhD programme manager and will have the following members:

At least two scientific employees who are involved in teaching the study programme
At least one student representative per student year group for bachelor’s and master’s programmes. In the case of PhD programmes: the student representative and at least one other candidate.
Study programmes with supervised professional training based on a framework plan should also include a representative from the field of practice.
b) The faculty board/teacher education board may stipulate specified requirements for the composition of the committee beyond what is stated in 2a.
c) The period of office for scientific employees and external representatives is two years.
d) The period of office for student representatives and PhD candidates is one year.
e) The faculty board/teacher education board appoints members to the study programme-/ PhD programme committees.

3. Organising study programme committees
All bachelor’s and master’s programmes will generally have their own study programme committee. At the PhD level, there is to be a PhD programme committee for the faculty programme. The faculty board may delegate assignments from the PhD programme committee to a PhD specialisation committee.

The faculty board/the teacher education board may stipulate that there is to be a joint study programme committee which serves several study programmes.
