Description of function for external/internal examiner

Adopted by the university’s Academic Affairs Committee 7 June 2018 (effective from 1 August 2018).

  1. Examiners have an obligation to familiarise themselves with the stipulations concerning examinations in the Act relating to universities and university colleges and the Examination regulations of the University of Agder.
  2. Examiners may be instructed to participate in the development of examination question papers and guidelines for grading, see the relevant stipulations in the University of Agder Examination regulations, section 37.
  3. Examiners are responsible for grading examination question papers and that the grading is registered within the set date on the digital platform or, exceptionally, on a signed list of grades. If for unforeseen reasons, it is impossible to complete the grading before the closing date, the examiner must as soon as possible notify the person responsible for the course.
  4. An examiner who accepts grading assignments thereby also accepts being an examiner in case of possible postponed or extraordinary examinations in the same course.
  5. Examiners have an obligation to familiarise themselves with the current course description, syllabus/repertoire list and the examiners’ guidelines for the course.
  6. An external examiner will sign a contract/examiner’s agreement with the university and return the agreement/contract within the set date.
  7. Examiners give reasons for their grading in accordance with regulations in the Act relating to universities and university colleges and the Examination regulations of the University of Agder.
