Thakur joined UiA at the start of 2024 as a dean, coming from NTNU, but has recently decided to step down from his leadership role within the Faculty of Engineering and Science.

"I've had some really exciting months at UiA, and have been warmly welcomed here," says Thakur.

"But since I started, things have come up within my family in both Trondheim and India that make it right for me to return to Trondheim," he says.

He will work until the end of 2024 to finalise various strategic processes at the faculty.

"Fully understand"

Thakur is on leave from NTNU and plans to return to his position as professor there.

"Vikas has come in and launched several important processes to prepare the faculty for the future. It's a shame that our journey ends here, but I fully understand that he wants to prioritise his family," says Rector Sunniva Whittaker.

UiA will now begin the process of finding Thakur's successor.
