Areas of responsibility

My main research focuses on teaching food and health in schools and sustainability related to teacher training and teaching in higher education. I teach primary school teacher students in food and health at both bachelor's and master's level. I also teach health communication on the Bachelor of Public Health.

Research

Food and health in schools (Home economics) and teacher education are now my research field. The topic is related to teaching in general and, more recently, sustainability teaching in particular at various levels in the education course.

I lead the Nordplus network FENN (Food Education Network North). The network will create a joint and coherent Nordic-Baltic education area centered on Food Education, enabling systematic and coordinated collaboration and development of Food Education based on the latest research and development activities. https://app.cristin.no/projects/show.jsf?id=2664800

Tuition

I teach food and health (Home Economics) to student teachers at various levels in primary school teacher training. I am responsible for the subject Food and society for those taking food and health 2. I also teach the master's students in the subjects Food and Health in a health promoting perspective, Food and consumption in a sustainability perspective and Philosophy of Science and Method for the Researching Teacher in Food and Health, as well as to supervise master's theses.

I am subject coordinator for food and health.

I also teach health communication in the bachelor's degree in public health work.

Short biography

Has worked ten years as a general teacher in elementary school with special emphasis on food and health education (home economics). At the University in Agder i started my work in 2007.

Læreplanen i mat og helse har kompetansemål etter 4., 7, og 10. trinn, samtidig som læreplanen skal ses i lys av læreplanverkets overordnede del. Opplæringsloven slår fast at elevene har rett til grunnskoleopplæring i samsvar med læreplanene. Tidligere forskning har vist store variasjoner i hvordan mat- og helseundervisningen gjennomføres. I denne artikkelen undersøker vi hvordan elever på 4. trinn opplever mat- og helseundervisningen sett opp mot hvordan skoleledere mener de prioriterer undervisningen i faget, med henblikk på elevenes lovfestede rettigheter. Studien har et kvalitativt forskningsdesign. Vi har gjennomført åtte semi-strukturerte fokusgruppe-intervjuer med elever på 4. trinn, og individuelle intervjuer med skoleledere på fire skoler i to landsdeler. Innsamlede data er analysert ved hjelp av tematisk analyse. Resultatene tyder på sammenheng mellom hvorvidt undervisningen er timeplanfestet eller ikke, og elevenes opplevde undervisning. Resultatene indikerer også at det var norsk, matematikk og engelsk skoleledelsen prioriterte da Kunnskapsløftet 2020 ble innført, noe som kan ha påvirket prioriteringen av mat- og helsefaget. For økt satsning på mat og helse, bør faget timeplanfestes for 1.-4. trinn, for å sikre at elevene i større grad får den undervisningen de har krav på. Temaet bør også inn i rektorutdanningen, og tilbys som fagvalg ved alle landets lærerutdanningsinstitusjoner.

Introduction: Behavioural interventions in early life appear to show some effect in reducing childhood overweight and obesity. However, uncertainty remains regarding their overall effectiveness, and whether effectiveness differs among key subgroups. These evidence gaps have prompted an increase in very early childhood obesity prevention trials worldwide. Combining the individual participant data (IPD) from these trials will enhance statistical power to determine overall effectiveness and enable examination of individual and trial-level subgroups. We present a protocol for a systematic review with IPD meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of obesity prevention interventions commencing antenatally or in the first year after birth, and to explore whether there are differential effects among key subgroups. Methods and analysis: Systematic searches of Medline, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), PsycInfo and trial registries for all ongoing and completed randomised controlled trials evaluating behavioural interventions for the prevention of early childhood obesity have been completed up to March 2021 and will be updated annually to include additional trials. Eligible trialists will be asked to share their IPD; if unavailable, aggregate data will be used where possible. An IPD meta-analysis and a nested prospective meta-analysis will be performed using methodologies recommended by the Cochrane Collaboration. The primary outcome will be body mass index z-score at age 24±6 months using WHO Growth Standards, and effect differences will be explored among prespecified individual and trial-level subgroups. Secondary outcomes include other child weight-related measures, infant feeding, dietary intake, physical activity, sedentary behaviours, sleep, parenting measures and adverse events. Ethics and dissemination: Approved by The University of Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee (2020/273) and Flinders University Social and Behavioural Research Ethics Committee (HREC CIA2133-1). Results will be relevant to clinicians, child health services, researchers, policy-makers and families, and will be disseminated via publications, presentations and media releases.
