Legal Challenges in Implementing AI-Based Systems in the Healthcare Sector
by
Lana Bubalo - Associate Professor of Law at the Business School, University of Stavanger
About the Lecture
The use of AI has enormous potential in patient care, diagnosis, and treatment. There are already several examples of the use of this technology in Norwegian hospitals and care services. However, the use of AI is not without risks and can have unfortunate consequences.
Privacy, discrimination, liability for misdiagnosis and mistreatment, intellectual property rights, information security, patient autonomy, and the lack of explainability in AI systems are key issues when discussing the legal challenges related to the use of AI in the healthcare sector.
This lecture will provide an insight into the main challenges that arise from the use of this technology in healthcare services. Increased understanding of the legal issues and regulatory requirements will make healthcare professionals and patients more comfortable with the use of AI, while also being better equipped to make sound decisions that respect patients' rights.
From 13.00 - 14:00

About the Lecture
Natassia has about one year left of her PhD and is currently recruiting patients for her third study. The first two studies are qualitative, involving interviews and field observations. She will present the purpose, design, and research methods used in this project so far.
The topic, as mentioned, is user involvement in the development of digital solutions for monitoring patients with heart failure at home. This includes investigating whether digital solutions can enhance empowerment and quality of life for patients and their relatives.
