The signage scheme's most important task is to make it easy for visitors, employees and students to find their way around. UiA's signs must be functional, user-friendly and meet requirements for universal accessibility.
Design for universal accessibility
- Signs must be easily visible and accessible to all, regardless of whether one is seated or standing. The ideal location is between 90 cm and 150 cm from the ground
- Visible from 13 metres away. Should be legible at 2 metres
- Matt surface
- Tactile letters and numbers for the floor you are on
- English translation
Door signage and pictograms
The pictograms are designed to harmonise with our logo. Thick clear lines that are easy to read from afar. We have developed pictograms for toilets, cleaning cupboards and changing rooms.

Temporary signs and posters
Avoid
It is not desirable to put up temporary signs or stickers on your own without first contacting the person responsible for signage. We want our campuses to be welcoming and for the visual expression to be of high quality.
Signs must comply with universal accessibility requirements. Avoid the use of commanding language or prohibitions. Write in a concise and friendly manner.

The authority for creating signs rests with the Division of Finance and Campus Management, and design is done through the Division of Communication.
