The committee provides advice on the follow-up and implementation of the language policy guidelines, statutory requirements, and the further development of the university’s language policy. The committee reports to the university management.
The committee’s tasks
- Be the university’s advisory body on language policy and promote awareness of language policy issues
- Be aware of and give advice on the university’s role and duty to promote the Norwegian language and the development of the language
- Work to ensure that the language policy guidelines are implemented
- Suggest measures to help strengthen the quality of language use
- Be aware of the various language service resources available at UiA
- Promote terminology work at UiA
The Language Policy Committee is appointed by rector for three years and consists of up to nine members. The committee should include employees in key management positions; technical, administrative, and academic staff; employees with a first language other than Norwegian; and students. The Language Policy Committee also has a secretariat. The committee itself prioritises the tasks and working methods based on its mandate. The committee prepares action plans and reports to the University Board.
