Appeals Committee

The Appeals Committee has been appointed under the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges, section 5-1 (1), and processes the following cases:

• Appeals over individual decisions and other appeals issues for students, see Act relating to Universities and University Colleges (hereafter UH Act), section 5-1 (1). The UH Act’s section 7-6 (2) includes a list of decisions that are classified as individual decisions.
• Cases concerning confiscation of forged diplomas or other forged documents or documents issued at fake institutions, and decisions concerning quarantine, see UH Act, section 3-7 (8).
• Cases concerning annulment of examination or test, see UH Act, section 4-7.
• Cases concerning expulsion and exclusion, see UH Act, section 4-8.
• Cases concerning fee reductions, see UH Act, section 4-8 (5).
• Cases concerning exclusion related to criminal conduct (Certificate of good conduct), see UH Act, section 4-9.
• Cases concerning exclusion after suitability assessment and proposal from the Suitability Committee, see UH Act, section 4-10.
• Cases concerning forced termination of a doctoral education, see UH Act, section 4-13 (2)
• Appeal over refusal to approve a doctoral thesis, see UH Act, section 4-13 (4)

Appeals over admission through the Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admission Service are not processed by the university’s Appeals Committee but by a national appeals body.

The Appeals Committee’s decisions in appeal cases cannot be appealed; see UH Act, section 5-1 (5).

Appeals over decisions made by the university’s Appeals Committee relating to annulment, exclusion and expulsion, exclusion related to criminal conduct (certificate of good conduct), exclusion after suitability assessment and fee reductions are processed by a national appeals body.

Students are entitled to legal assistance by a lawyer in cases concerning expulsion or exclusion. Expenses for legal assistance will be covered by the institution; see UH Act, section 4-8 (5).
