Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
Describe the basic behavioral processes in organizations
Explain how the organizational elements such as structure and culture affect behavior in organizations
Identify key aspects of the relationship between information technology and the organization
Give an account of how informationsystems can help rationalize and change organizations
Describe new trends in orgaf nizational design, especially for virtual organizations
Course contents
The course provides an introduction to central organizational theory issues. Particular emphasis is placed on how the use of technology can change organizations, such as streamlining work processes and changing existing markets. Students gain insight into basic concepts such as organization and technology as well as a deeper understanding of what information and communications technology is. Formal characteristics of organizations, including structure, goals and strategy, and informal characteristics, including organizational culture and power relationships, are reviewed.
Teaching methods
The course is organized with a mixture of lectures and digital teaching activities. Estimated workload is 6.5 hours per week per student.
Assessment methods and criteria
3-hours individual written exam that counts 100% of the total grade. Grades A-F.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.
