On successful completion of the course, the student should
show basic knowledge in statistics
use simple statistical methods
use a statistical computerprogram
Course contents
descriptive statistics
probability and probability distributions
confidence intervals and testing hypothesis
linear regression and correlation
chi-square test
uses of statistics in laboratory work and in fieldwork
Teaching methods
Lectures, work in small groups. There will be exercise in a statisticsprogramme. Compulsory assignement. The course has an expected workload of around 266 hours

Assessment methods and criteria
A 5-hour written examination. Graded assessment.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
