It is important that you attend the introductory meeting for your study programme:

You will receive an SMS on the day before semester start about registering your attendance. You can only do this after you have received a code which you will get at the introductory meeting of your programme. Further information will be given at the introductory meeting.

If you have not received an SMS, you have already been registered via for example summer school, a preliminary course or similar.

The introductory meetings are mandatory for all new students and students who have been admitted for the autumn semester.

All new international students at UiA are allocated a buddy group. We recommend that you get involved right from the start to get to know your fellow students, campus, and the city. The buddies are experienced UiA students who organise social events and do their best to ensure you have a good semester start at UiA. Your buddy will contact you before semester start to provide you with further information.

You will meet your buddy on Arrival Day Thursday 10 August. All international students will meet at Orientation Day Friday 11 August (for international students only).

On Tuesday 15 August, UiA Help invites new students to an introduction to digital tools.

The course will be held in English at 13.15-14.00 in C2 036.

The following points are covered during the course:

1. User account - username, password, two-factor authentication
2. Student ID card - submit photo online - photo requirements - access to printers/buildings/library resources - Student ID app - valid identification required
3. Studentweb - register and pay (by 1 September) 
4. Computer requirements - Windows/Mac – support
5. WiFi - eduroam - internet access on and off campus (eduVPN)
6. Software - M365 (Teams) - OneDrive - innsia.uia.no – ClickIT
7. Canvas
8. Websites - study programme, semester start, navigation etc.

The course is a supplement to the information found on the website New student: Get started with digital tools.

In the first week, new students gather for an introductory meeting on Tuesday, where the study program leader provides information about the study and life around the study. Time and place are announced on the timetable.

Social and professional events are planned for the first week. More information will be given at the introduction meeting.

There will be a compulsory HSE-course in the start of the first semester. The students on the master’s programme have access to the two special rooms: Future classroom and Future Interaction lab. These are the most modern up to date rooms on the campus, and you will have most of your teaching there. 

To get access to Canvas, where you will find updated information about everything you need for your studies, you have to register for classes. We recommend that you register as soon as you receive a username and password – you can do this before semester start. You will receive your username and password via SMS the week before semester start at the latest.

The teaching will reflect the wide range of branches you can work in after graduation, ranging from the development of E-learning material for traditional school and university education, training of employees in offshore firms and other specialist firms, and as an employee in companies using E-learning and educational technologies. The programme focuses on educational technology, and all topics are helping to underpin the knowledge necessary to develop good E-learning modules and topics.

The ECTS course catalogue gives you details about what you are going to learn in each course (subject), what you can expect and what is expected of you. It is important that you familiarise yourself with the course plan for your programme.

As a student on this study programme you must complete a course in health, safety and environment (ORG 001). See the course description. The course will be in two parts. One theoretical part and one practical part on campus including CPR and fire safety training. The course is mandatory and must be passed to complete the programme. The successfully completed course will appear on your transcript.

As a student you are required to have your own PC or Mac. Office 365 is available for all students through UiA. You are free to choose what kind of PC or Mac you want to use for your studies, but it is an advantage if your machine has quite high capacity. We will recommend a minimum of 16 GB ram, 512 GB SSD and a powerful solution for graphics.

As a student at Multimedia and Educational Technology, you become part of the line association Pixel.

Line associations are student associations are linked to specific study programmes. They organise both academic and social activities, and gather students who follow the same "line", across cohorts.

You can also take part in a number of student activities that are not connected to your study programme. During your studies, you can get involved in different associations, and in various councils, boards and committees.

We encourage you to explore these possibilities, and use your time as a student to learn and gain experience also outside the curriculum and lectures. Get involved in what happens outside of your studies - you will receive a lot in return.
