Rector Sunniva Whittaker encourages staff, students and others who want to show support for the Ukrainian people to participate in the support events in the region.
Events have been held in the region to protest the Russian invasion of Ukraine and show support for the Ukrainian people. On Saturday, Razem, a Norwegian-Polish association, organised an event in Kristiansand while the local Labour Party organised a gathering in Grimstad.
Rector has encouraged employees and students to take part in such events:
Dear employees and students,
The war in Ukraine is one of the worst acts of war in Europe since World War II. It strikes blindly and the impacts are terrible. If you want to show your support for the Ukrainian people, I encourage you to attend the support events held in our region.
Rector Sunniva Whittaker
There will be a gathering to support Ukraine at Øvre Torv in Kristiansand on Wednesday 2 March at 18:00 - Organised by “Hva skjer i Kristiansand”, Teateret and Andreas Haugland Ausland – Socialist Left Party
There are several students and staff at UiA who are either Ukrainian citizens or have close ties to Ukraine.
Rector Sunniva Whittaker sent an SMS to them on Thursday which reads as follows:
Dear students from Ukraine,
It is with great sadness that we learned about the invasion of your country. As rector of the university, I would like to express my deepest sympathy with you in this extremely difficult situation. We will try to assist you as best we can in every possible way.
Kind regards Sunniva Whittaker
