The University Library aims to increase the use of quality assured sources of knowledge, and also to make those sources of knowledge available on all relevant platforms; printed, digital, multimedial – regardless of location. We will ensure that the services, resources and tools are available on various learning management systems.
The library’s services and ICT services are present in the physical learning environment to support students in their daily learning experiences and employees in their research and teaching.
Values
The University Library builds its values on the core values of the university. The work culture at the University Library is known by its professionalism, respect, generosity and musicality.
Academic professionalism
We maintain a high academic level and utilize it through every day interactions with patrons and coworkers. There is also room for disagreements in our academic environment.
Respect
Patrons and coworkers are truly respected and we listen and respond in a professional manner. This contributes to a sense of well being and increased self assurance. Furthermore, it will create togetherness, enthusiasm and services of the highest quality.
Generosity
We spend time being generous toward other opinions, making coworkers feel safeguarded. This is to ensure a good work environment where people thrive and are efficient. Knowledge is shared between employees, and we show compassion and trust by being openminded to thoughts from colleagues and patrons. It is ok to disagree in a respectful and professional manner. Additionally this will create enthusiasm, subject mastery and innovation within each other.
Musicality
Musicality comprises cooperation, adaptability, goal-orientation, extraversion and creates joy and enthusiasm at a similar rhythm. The value shines through when employees work toward a common goal in a harmonious way.
Philosophy
Agder University Library has formulated its straightforward philosophy in this way:
“We will create academic enthusiasm and subject mastery by efficiently guiding our students and employees through relevant services and resources of the highest quality”
Our philosophy emphasizes the university library’s role as a support service for the academic research and teaching at the University of Agder. We make the relevant resources and services available in such a way that employees and students reach both their own and the university’s goals and thus advance their use of the library. The University Library focuses on the needs of the patrons. We provide guidance in information literacy adjusted to the university’s requirements, and that will boost the students and researcher’s production of knowledge. Our goal is to make knowledge visible and available in such a way that it fosters new perspectives within education and research, and everyone we encounter during the day will feel supported and guided towards the next step in their academic journey.
