Juan Pardo

PhD Research Fellow

I am a marine biologist and coastal manager exploring species interactions and ecosystem dynamics, with a keen interest in ocean and coastal literacy initiatives.

My ongoing PhD project aims to better understand how climate change-related stressors have been affecting the benthic communities (i.e., organisms that live at the bottom of a body of water), with a particular focus on their structuring, functioning and influence on carbon fluxes.

I am a member of the Centre for Coastal Research (CCR) and the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), Region South.

General outreach

Former coordinator of the extension program "Pet-Mar: the use of recycling for the knowledge of marine animals" (São Paulo State University, UNESP), a tool for bottom-up ocean and coastal literacy of primary school children (2016-2018). Please see our publication about the project for more details.

Co-creator of the patented Mobile App "By-catch species’ identification - Shrimp trawl fisheries" (available in Portuguese), an interactive tool to help fishermen, environmental and fishery agencies, NGOs and society in Brazil to understand the bycatch species biodiversity.

Member of the Organising Committee - "Coastal Management and Marine Biology Week", São Vicente, Brazil (2013-2014)
