UiA Language Services is a division of PULS, in collaboration with the Division of Research Management, which runs language services for staff at the university. UiA Language Services offers courses in Norwegian and English language, both written and oral.
UiA Language Services also offers translation, proof-reading/copy editing and consultations for the university administration and - dependent on available capacity – proof-reading of academic work for PhD students. UiA Language Services can be contacted for proof-reading in connection with project applications as long as this is arranged well in advance of application deadlines.

Deadlines
All of our services are subject to our available capacity. We do our best to be accommodating, but it is important that any deadlines are agreed in advance via email. This applies particularly in the case of larger projects. Exactly how much time we need will be dependent on the content of the document, its length and linguistic accuracy.
Translation
Owing to limitations in our capacity, we cannot, unfortunately, translate course or programme descriptions (formerly the ECTS catalogue), but copy editing and checking is available. Contact us for questions about other kinds of translation.
Content
In accordance with Norwegian traditions and practices in higher education, British English is the preferred variety of English for UiA in official contexts.
It may well be that there is reasons to write in American English. If this is the case, we ask that you inform us of this intention when you send documents to us.
We also use the MHRA stylesheet as standard. If you use another system, it would be wise to inform us of this before we start the editing work.
The following is typically not included in copy editing work:
Comments regarding content or structure
References
Sources
Specific requirements from particular publishers, clients etc
In some cases, we must reject orders if we see that we do not have sufficient competence within a given area to provide satisfactory translations/editing. We will inform you of this as soon as possible.
What do the services cost?
Nothing. This is a free service for all UiA staff.
How can services be ordered?
See the contact information about. If you send us an email, we will endeavour to reply as quickly as possible.
