The mandate for the Research Committee at the Faculty of Fine Arts (adopted by the Faculty Board)
1. Function
The Faculty Research Committee is the Faculty Board’s advisory body on matters concerning artistic-and academic research and dissemination. The Research Committee shall contribute to the realization of the University of Agder’s and the Faculty of Fine Arts’ strategies and focus areas within the field. The Faculty Research Committee shall also advise the Faculty Board in the development of the faculty’s PhD programmes
2.Tasks
The Faculty Research Committee shall

Prepare proposals for strategies and priorities for faculty activities in academic and artistic research, and academic -development and dissemination.

Recommend annual priorities and provide input based on the Faculty Board’s decisions concerning annual budgets and activity plans.

Assess the quality of applications for R & D time for the coming year, as well as proposals for the allocation of research time for staff.

Allocate travel grants upon application by staff according to specific criteria. Annual travel expenses up to NOK 30.000 per academic staff member, may be allocated by the administration.

Allocate publication support, support for presentations of artistic research and academic development according to specific criteria.

Advice the Dean in the allocation of the faculty’s strategic funds, targeted on developing applications for external funding.

Take the initiative in other research-related issues according to its own or the Faculty Board’s needs

Contribute in the development of the faculty’s PhD programmes.
3. Composition
The Dean is the Head of the faculty’s research committee. Head of the Departments, Head of the PhD programmes and Head of the PhD specialisations are members of the committee. All of the faculty’s specialisations shall have a candidate representative.The Faculty Board may appoint additional members to the committee. The Faculty Director, or the Faculty Director’s deputy, functions as secretary and submits proposals to the committee. According to the needs of the Faculty Director or the committee, the Faculty Director may also join the committee.
