Our academic culture must be diverse, and we must be characterised by equality and community. A prerequisite for success in this work is that everyone at UiA contributes to targeted efforts for equality, diversity and inclusion at UiA - every single day.

Seunn Smith-Tønnessen

University Director

UiA’s vision is ‘co-creating knowledge for the future’. We will create and disseminate knowledge and contribute to innovation. Our academic culture must be diverse, and we must be characterised by equality and inclusion. In addition, we will contribute to the achievement of the UN’s sustainability goals on both gender equality and reduced inequality. We promote equality, inclusion and diversity when we co-create at UiA.

The diversity that students and staff at UiA represent is enriching both for UiA and for the region. In order to achieve good utilisation of human resources and to achieve the goals of our strategy, it is important that students and staff are safe, feel equal and included. UiA has zero tolerance for discrimination, bullying, harassment and racism.

On 15 September 2020, the University Board adopted its fourth Action Plan for Equality, Inclusion and Diversity. The action plan describes goals and measures that support equality, diversity and inclusion at UiA in the period 2021-2024. A prerequisite for success in this work is that everyone at UiA contributes to our efforts to achieve equality, diversity and inclusion at UiA - every single day.

At UiA, this is what we strive to achieve, from our University Board, my management team, and in co-creation with our managers and employees. Our goal is to succeed, together!

Yours sincerely, University Director Seunn Smith-Tønnesen
