Student Ombudsperson

The University of Agder should be a safe place to be for all our students, and they should feel equal and included. We want a diverse and educational student environment at UiA.

For students at UiA, it is therefore important to know that the university has a statutory responsibility to provide a safe learning environment and ensure that students do not experience discrimination on the basis of their gender, ethnicity, religion, functional ability, culture, gender identity, sexual orientation or other grounds.

However, this is not only a statutory duty for UiA, but also a wish from the institution itself. UiA’s strategy states that our academic culture should be diverse and that our knowledge community should be characterised by equality and inclusion. We believe that the diversity that the students represent is an enrichment for both the university and the whole of Agder.

A safe learning environment means a student life free from bullying, harassment and sexual harassment. Students at UiA must therefore follow good sexual etiquette, and a number of internal courses and trainings are provided for both students and supervisors. A safe learning environment must also be ensured by providing opportunities for speaking up. And students who report concerns, whether it is something they experience or become aware of, must be taken seriously.

We at UiA work to ensure that students and staff together get a safe environment that fosters growth and learning. We co-create knowledge for the future.
